TITLE: Lead Carpenter

Position Type: Full-Time

Compensation: Dependent on Experience (DOE)

Location / Travel: Field-based (Must be willing to travel as needed)

ROLE:

Richardson Construction is seeking a highly skilled, safety-conscious Lead Carpenter to direct field operations, oversee project execution, and deliver top-quality craftsmanship.

As a Lead Carpenter, you will be responsible for running job sites, supervising field crews and subcontractors, reading and analyzing blueprints, managing materials/budgets, and ensuring all work strictly adheres to project specifications, local city codes, and OSHA safety standards. We are looking for a self-motivated leader with extensive hands-on expertise in commercial and residential carpentry.

Key Responsibilities and Leadership

• Field Supervision & Leadership: Direct, mentor, and coordinate field crews of up to 10 workers to ensure high productivity, quality workmanship, and customer satisfaction.
• Subcontractor Management: Delegate, schedule, and oversee specialized trade partners including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, roofing, and excavation crews.
• Project & Material Management: Read and interpret blueprints, specs, and shop drawings; perform material take-offs; order supplies; track jobsite inventory; and manage project paperwork/daily reports.
• Safety & Code Compliance: Enforce all federal (OSHA), state, and local safety standards; perform daily safety inspections; train crew members; and ensure full compliance with municipal building codes.
• Quality Control: Inspect ongoing and finished work for true alignment, structural integrity, and specification compliance; identify and repair defects or inconsistencies promptly.
• Communication: Maintain clear, professional communication with project managers, clients, inspectors, and trade partners.

Hands-On Trade Duties

• Framing & Structural: Perform layout, rough carpentry, subflooring, structural bracing, and framing using both wood and metal studs.
• Concrete & Masonry: Build, set, align, and pour concrete foundation formwork, footings, and flatwork using proper leveling and fabrication techniques.
• Interior & Exterior Finishes: Hang and finish drywall/sheetrock, install insulation, fire caulking, acoustic tile, siding, moisture barriers, and specialized wall/ceiling paneling.
• Finish Carpentry & Hardware: Install interior/exterior doors, commercial-grade finish hardware, locks, hinges, trim, window frames, staircases, cabinetry, and custom wood fixtures.
• Restoration & Special Projects: Execute fire/flood restoration work, interior/exterior remodels, structural repairs, and custom commercial build-outs.

Qualifications & Job Requirements

• Experience: Minimum 10+ years of progressive construction experience (commercial experience strongly preferred).
• Leadership Experience: Proven track record supervising crews and running commercial or residential job sites.
• Driver’s License: Must possess a valid, clean driver’s license.
• Code & Safety Expertise: Deep knowledge of OSHA regulations, city building codes, and jobsite safety protocols.
• Technical Skills: Expert blueprint reading, material estimation, elevation checking, layout, and tool operation (hand/power tools, woodworking machinery, measuring/leveling tools).
• Self-Reliance & Drive: Ability to work unsupervised, solve complex field problems, and adapt to changing site conditions.
• Physical Capability: Must be comfortable working at heights (ladders, scaffolding), lifting heavy materials, and performing labor-intensive tasks outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Travel: Must be willing and able to travel to out-of-town project sites as required.
